Mr. Douglas Sanford, Principal
After obtaining a Bachelor's degree from Loyola College, Mr. Sanford began his career in education as a math teacher at a private school in Baltimore, Maryland. Having been born and raised in Westfield, New Jersey, he returned to his home state and continued his career at St. Peter's Preparatory School. During his time at St. Peter's Prep, he obtained a Master's degree from St. Peter's College in School Administration and transitioned into administration as a Summer School Principal. Shortly thereafter, he returned to his alma mater, Westfield High School, as an Assistant Principal. In 2009, he became Principal of Delaware Valley Regional High School. In his role as Principal he contributed to many advancements and successes within the school including curriculum development, facilities and technology upgrades, enhanced communication, and improved student outcomes. On July 1, 2011 he assumed the position of Principal of Montville Township High School.

Dr. David Gelber, Assistant Principal
Dr. Gelber joined Montville Township High School in January 2018 as an Assistant Principal. He began his career in education as a Business Education teacher. Dr. Gelber moved into an administrative role as the Coordinator of Student Support Services in the Morris School District where he served as the 504-coordinator, Harassment Intimidation & Bullying (HIB) Coordinator, and oversaw Master Schedule development. He also served as Assistant Principal at Saddle Brook Middle/High School where he worked with staff to improve and expand instructional programing and opportunities for all students. At Montville Township High School, Dr. Gelber is an active member of the 504 & MTSS committees, facilitates the Emergency Response Committee, and helps coordinate assessment and standardized testing schedule. Dr. Gelber earned his Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership in 2023. Dr. Gelber's dissertation, titled "A Case Study of the Perceptions of Teachers and the Support Needed to Transition to Online Instruction," explores the challenges and supports necessary for effective online education.

Mr. Kenneth Nadzak, Assistant Principal
Mr. Nadzak earned his Bachelor’s degree in Social Science Education from the University of Central Florida and Master’s Degree in Education Administration from the University of Scranton. Mr. Nadzak spent several years teaching Social Studies in Florida and New Jersey before becoming an Assistant Principal at MTHS in July, 2013. Mr. Nadzak is currently an active member of the School Improvement Panel (ScIP) and the School Climate Committee. He is looking forward to pursuing his Doctorate in Educational Leadership in the near future.

Mr. Wayne Guarino, Director of Athletics, Physical Education, Health, & Nurses
Mr. Guarino earned his B.A. in History and a minor in Secondary Education from Saint Peter’s College in 2007. He obtained a M.A. in Education in 2011 from The College of New Jersey and a M.A. in Educational Leadership in 2016 from Montclair State University. Mr. Guarino began his teaching career at MTHS in May of 2008. In addition to teaching, Mr. Guarino has served in various coaching roles for the District (Head Bowling coach, assistant baseball coach, assistant girls tennis coach, and assistant football coach). Mr. Guarino currently serves as Vice President of the Morris County Athletic Directors Association and is the Tournament Director in charge of Bowling, Softball, and Girls Basketball. Mr. Guarino will complete the Certified Athletic Administrators program from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators’ Association in March 2025.

Ms. Leslee J. Scheckman, Director of School Counseling, K-12
Ms. Scheckman completed her undergraduate degree at Montclair State University with a major in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a minor in Special Education and Pre-School Education. Additionally, she completed her Master’s Degree as a Reading Specialist at Kean University. Throughout her career, Ms. Scheckman continued her educational pursuits in administration and supervision, career education, and school counseling with a concentration on college admissions and mental health. Ms. Scheckman has been an administrator in the Montville Township School District since 2013. Prior to her time in Montville, Ms. Scheckman was the Director of Guidance for eight years in the Morris School District. In the earlier years of her career, Ms. Scheckman was an educator in Carteret, and a school counselor in Westfield, Hillsborough, and the Somerset County Vocational/Technical school districts. Ms. Scheckman's experience also includes twelve years in business management/consulting where she worked with school districts on the west coast and throughout the north and southeast.

Mr. Edward Fleischman, Supervisor of Fine, Practical, & Performing Arts
Mr. Fleischman graduated from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, with a B.M. in Music Performance. After graduation, he became the Director of Concert Operations at The Juilliard School, NYC, where he managed all of the school’s music, dance, and drama performances and related events. After a successful tenure there, he transitioned into public education teaching general music, band, and orchestra in the Butler and Summit Public Schools. During that time, he continued his graduate studies, and he earned his Master’s Degree in Music Education from Montclair State University. His teaching career culminated in becoming the Orchestra Director at New Providence Middle and High School. His ensembles were regularly awarded outstanding and superior rankings at competition festivals. Continuing his professional growth he completed the Post-Masters Principals Certification program at Kean University. Mr. Fleischman was appointed Supervisor of The Arts for Montville Township Public Schools in July 2013.

Dr. Sandra Schwartz, Supervisor of Math, Science & Business
Dr. Schwartz graduated in 1995 from Richard Stockton College of New Jersey with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Science with a concentration in fisheries management. She continued her education by receiving a Masters of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction: Computers, Mathematics, and Science in 2004 from Kean University. In 2012, she earned her Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from College of Saint Elizabeth. In 2013, she joined the Montville Township School District as the Science, Math and Business Supervisor.

Dr. Tamar Spitzer, Supervisor of World Languages & ESL
Dr. Spitzer graduated from the University of Maryland in 2001 with a B.A. in Germanic Languages and Literatures. While at Maryland, she received a full scholarship to study abroad at the University of Vienna, Austria, refining her love of languages, education, and culture. She went on to earn her Master of Arts in Teaching with a concentration in English as a Second Language from Kean University, and her doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Saint Elizabeth University. Dr. Spitzer began her administrative career in Fair Lawn, NJ and has also been an administrator at Morristown High School and the School District of the Chathams. Her goal is to contribute to Montville Township School District by working with teachers and students to establish themselves as culturally sensitive global citizens.

Mr. David Tubbs, Supervisor of Humanities
Mr. Tubbs is an alumnus of Montville Township High School ('91) and member of the MTHS Social Studies Department since 2006. He has been working in education since 1997 teaching courses at all academic levels. Mr. Tubbs is trained as an Advanced Placement test grader for the College Board and has worked as a consultant in the process of creating standardized assessments. He earned a B.A. from Rutgers College in Political Science/History and M.A. from St. Peter's Graduate School of Education in Teaching & Supervision/Administration. Mr. Tubbs, a Montville resident, enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters, reading, tinkering, listening to music (particularly Jimmy Buffett), travel, and going to museums.
