Teachers review the students’ records and the Home Language Survey submitted at registration. Based on these findings, teachers will then administer the WIDA MODEL assessment. If a student qualifies for services, parents will be notified via email.

How do students qualify for ESL?
How do students exit out of ESL?
Students need to score a minimum of a 4.5 out of 6 on the WIDA ACCESS (given in the spring) or MODEL assessment, as well as recommendations from the students’ ESL and content area teachers. Students must be able to comprehend instruction and communicate well with others in an English-only classroom.
What happens after students exit ESL?
After students exit the program, they will be monitored by the ESL teacher to ensure successful transition into mainstream classes.
When is the annual ESL ACCESS test?
The WIDA ACCESS testing takes place in February/March. This is a state-mandated test for all ESL students. Students will be tested in the areas of: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. They do not need to study for this test!
