Related Services

Students eligible for services under an Individualized Education Program (IEP) receive related services essential to supporting their educational goals. Common services include Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech/Language Therapy, Counseling, Assistive Technology, Nursing, and Transportation.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy (OT) helps students perform necessary school activities, fostering meaningful learning. School-based occupational therapists collaborate with the IEP team to evaluate needs, develop programs, and monitor progress. They address areas such as fine motor skills, sensory processing, and self-care. OT strategies may include direct therapy, environmental modifications, and collaboration with school staff to integrate interventions into daily activities.

Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy (PT) assists students with disabilities in accessing and participating in their school environment. School-based physical therapists develop interventions to help students achieve functional, age-appropriate skills, with a focus on mobility, motor skills, and environmental access. PT services are typically provided during the school day, emphasizing early intervention. The physical therapist collaborates with the IEP team to set and assess goals, offering consultation to teachers and parents as needed.

Speech and Language Therapy

Speech-Language Pathologists, certified as Speech Language Specialists, enhance communication abilities for students with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders. They provide direct services, consult with teachers and parents, and evaluate students' communication needs. As part of the IEP team, they develop and monitor individualized goals, ensuring effective interventions are implemented.
