The Montville Township Public Schools transportation department is responsible for the safe and efficient transport of our students. Our bus contractors follow the state regulations regarding school bus operation and traffic laws. You can rest easy knowing that safety is our top priority.

Students who live beyond the following minimum distances from their assigned schools are entitled to transportation:

• Elementary: 2 Miles

• Middle School: 2 Miles

• High School:  2.5 Miles

Distances are on a "door to door" basis, using the most direct route as determined by the Board of Education.

The Montville Township Board of Education Subscription Bus Service, Public School Street Index, is a listing of addresses. Your subscription status can be ascertained by looking at your street name and then at the corresponding letters.

• R = Remote, which means you do NOT have to pay for a bus and do not need to apply for subscription busing.

• NR = Non-remote, meaning you must apply and pay for subscription busing.

If you are required to pay for subscription busing, your application will be located in Genesis Parent Access.

Subscription Busing is a program for students in grades K-12 who do not qualify for mandated transportation. All students in a subscription area must complete the application by declining or applying for the service.

• The Guaranteed Open Enrollment for Subscription Bussing was from June 1, 2024 - June 15, 2024. Applications received after that point are only considered on a first-come, first-served basis, depending upon seat availability.

• You do not qualify for mandated busing if your home has been determined to be 2 miles or less (for grades K-8) or 2.5 miles or less (for grades 9-12) from your school.

• Mileage is measured by the shortest route along public roadways and/or public walkways from the entrance of the student's residence nearest public roadway or public walkway to the nearest public entrance of the school [N.J.A.C. 6A:27-1.4(a) et seq].

• If you would like a seat on the bus for the 2024-2025 school year, complete the subscription busing form in Parent Access for each child and pay.

• This service costs $375 per student in grades K-5 and $475 per student in grades 6-12.

• District Transportation service fees for 2024-2025 reflect increased fuel costs.

How to pay the subscription busing fee (Check Payment ONLY):

Make your check payable to Montville Township Board of Education, then either mail your check to our Board Office or drop your check in the mailbox located outside the Board Office at any time.

Please note:

• All costs are for a round trip.

• There are no "one-way" fares. 

• Registration is for the full year only; no refunds at any time. 

• Existing bus stops will be used. 

• There are no family discounts. 

• Space cannot be guaranteed if payment is not received by the deadline. 

• There is one seat per child. 

• Transportation is only within the Home School area. 

• A new application is needed each school year. 

• Your check must clear the bank before the deadline.

We provide transportation to and from school to public school students attending special accredited schools in other districts. Children attending private schools are eligible to receive transportation or reimbursement in accordance with state rules and regulations.
