March 29, 2023 Dear Parents/Guardians and Community, The Montville Township Public Schools Board of Education successfully approved a resolution on March 14 instructing the District’s architect to submit to the Department of Education the scope of work needed to address the District’s enrollment increases. This action is necessary for the Department of Education to review and approve the proposed construction projects for a referendum. On March 7, we shared an analysis of the future district enrollment predictions for the elementary schools and a possible referendum solution. We have presented on this topic four times this year (1/17, 2/7, 3/7, 3/14/23). The PowerPoint presentations, Board of Education meetings, and Statistical Forecasting report can be found on the website at Board of Ed Presentations and on the Montville Township Board of Education Meetings YouTube Channel. While the enrollment changes will affect all seven schools over the next five years, Robert R. Lazar Middle School and Montville Township High School will be able to adjust to the ebb and flow of students (February presentation). The elementary schools, however, will need additional classrooms added to absorb the increased enrollment and adequately educate the students. The March 7 presentation focused on this issue. The enrollment increase can be attributed to migration patterns (more people moving into town), increased birth rates, and new housing. Next month, the financial team will determine the best ways to finance the solutions and determine the tax impact on homeowners. These figures will be presented at the April 11 Board of Education meeting beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Montville Township High School Media Center. We will keep you informed as decisions are made and more data are gathered. Using the links provided below, please take time to familiarize yourself with the information related to this topic.
