The Lazar Theatre Company presents Hard 2 Spel on Thursday and Friday, November 2 and 3, at 7:00 p.m. This is an inspiring play about dyslexia, friendship, character, kindness & fun!
Written by Linda Daugherty and Mary Rohde Scudday, Hard 2 Spel is a story about families coming together and understanding one another. It is about growing up and self-acceptance. The play’s message builds empathy and highlights the fact that all individuals have unique gifts despite learning differences.
“Hard 2 Spel empowers and uplifts," notes the Dramatic Publishing Company website. “The characters learn about who they are and how they learn.”
According to the authors, their inspiration behind writing Hard 2 Spel was to help audiences, as well as the students performing the dramatic piece, to develop a deeper understanding of learning challenges.
The DPC website goes on to say, “Imagine that every time you open a book, letters play tricks on you. They flip, they reverse, they jump upside down. Every sentence you read takes so much effort—so much energy—because the letters don't behave. By the time you reach the end of the sentence, you've lost its meaning. You're embarrassed and feel stupid. This is what two young people with learning differences face in Hard 2 Spel.”
A play that highlights challenges and success, as well as kindness and compassion, Hard 2 Spel is a powerful story of empathy, understanding, friendship and family.
Robert R. Lazar Middle School is a grade six through eight school located in the Montville Township Public Schools district.
Hard 2 Spel will be performed by the Lazar Drama Club on Thursday and Friday, November 2 and 3, at 7:00 p.m. The production will take place on the stage in the Robert R. Lazar Middle School gymnasium, 123 Changebridge Road. Tickets are $12/person and can be purchased in advance or at the door with cash or Venmo.
