VIRTUAL Youth Mental Health First Aid

February 21st and 28th, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

LEARN HOW TO SUPPORT THE YOUNG PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE!

Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs
of mental health, and substance use challenges among adolescents ages 12-18. You’ll build
the skills and confidence you need to reach out and provide initial support to young people who
are struggling. You’ll also learn how to help connect them to appropriate support.

This course is for parents, teachers, coaches, camp counselors, etc. Any adult who works with youth!

What it Covers:
  • Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges in this age group, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD).
  • Common signs and symptoms of substance use challenge.
  • How to interact with a child or adolescent in crisis.
  • How to connect the youth with help.
  • Expanded content on trauma, substance use, self-care, and the impact of social media and bullying.

How the Virtual Course works: First Aiders must complete a 2-hour, self-paced online class and then participate in a 2-hour Instructor-led video conference via Zoom on both Feb. 21 and 28.

This course is being provided free of charge to parents/guardians of students in grades 6-12.
