MTHS - At the Board of Education Meeting on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, Commander Ken Hazel of VFW Post 5481 awarded MTHS teacher Mr. Scott Riotto with the high school "Teacher of the Year Award." This award recognizes Mr. Riotto's contributions to citizenship education at MTHS.
Each year the Veterans of Foreign Wars selects elementary, middle and high school teachers to participate in the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher program. Prime candidates for this award are teachers who promote America's history, civic responsibility, flag etiquette, and patriotism.
Mr. Riotto has been an integral part of MTHS faculty for thirty years. In addition to teaching AP U.S. Government & Politics and US History I Honors, he is also the International Concerns Club (ICC) advisor. Mr. Riotto balances rigorous curriculum with his songs of the day, amazing guest speakers - including past and current members from the House of Representatives - and a love of Seinfeld.
The MTHS community congratulates Mr. Riotto on this honor.
