MTHS - Students in our band, choir and orchestra classes met in the auditorium this afternoon to hear from Kameron Ghanavati, Assistant Director of Admissions at the Manhattan School of Music. During the presentation, students learned about the application process, majors, housing and more. This experience provided students with a look into one of the world's premier music conservatories for classical music, jazz, and musical theatre.

The New Jersey School Boards Association presented Montville Township Board of Education Member, Dr. Karen Cortellino, with the prestigious NJSBA Champion Award during Workshop 2024 in Atlantic City. NJSBA Champion Awards are presented to individuals who exemplify outstanding dedication and effort in areas such as teamwork, leadership, innovation and other qualities that help the NJSBA advance its mission to promote the achievement of all students.
Dr. Karen Cortellino, was presented the prestigious NJSBA Champion Award during Workshop 2024 in Atlantic City. Cortellino, a member of the Montville Township Board of Education since 2006, and current President of the NJSBA Board of Directors, is a state-wide leader in board of education service, training and support. Cortellino’s nearly two decades of on-going and consistent leadership and dedication to the volunteers who are elected to boards of education across New Jersey has helped to enhance NJSBA’s mission to “positively support the education of New Jersey’s 1.4 million public school students.”

MTHS - Halloween cupcake baking is underway in our culinary arts classes. Each lab group decided on a cupcake flavor base and a specific Halloween centered decoration. They were responsible for listing all ingredients and equipment and tools necessary to complete the lab, as well as divide the responsibilities including: head chef, assistant chef, dishwasher and supervisor. After baking today, students will decorate the cupcakes for submission later this week!

MTHS - Ms. Iemmello's Public Speaking class conducts an in-class debate. Students were highly engaged in the crossfire portion of the activity! The public speaking course is semester based and is focused on the skill of speaking in a public forum. Students learn about the beginning stages of effective public speaking/presentation skills. Units covered will include the diverse types of comedy, the emphasis of drama, and the art of persuasion. Activities, lessons, and instruction involve preparing speeches to inform, entertain, and persuade through the use of research method.

MTHS - Last week students in our criminology classes participated in a true-to-life traffic stop simulation with Sergeant McGowan, Officer Manieri, and Officer Vogt. After the simulation students participated in a reflection activity. The objectives for the lesson include: • Provide the rationale behind different officer actions/reactions. • Explain the process that occurs on a routine and high risk traffic stop. • Outline the responsibilities of the citizen (subject) during a routine and high risk stop. • Relate important court cases to officer procedures including: the Carroll Doctrine and Arizona v. Gant.

MTHS - Seniors and juniors had the chance to attend the MTHS College Fair in the cafeteria this afternoon. College representatives from around the country were on hand to talk to students about their school and provide students with valuable information - and some swag. The college fair is a great opportunity for students to learn more about the college admission process, the colleges and universities and all the program they offer. A big thank you to the School Counseling Department for organizing the afternoon!

MTHS - Mr. Connolly's Sports & Entertainment Marketing students worked on social media ad projects and asked the ACCE students to come in an evaluate their presentations. After each presentation, the ACCE students filled out a scoring rubric which included emojis for scores of Excellent, Great, and Good for presentation, content, delivery, and visual appeal.

MTHS - College visits continue in the media center! Juniors and seniors, don't forget to register and attend these information sessions where college admissions counselors come and answer YOUR questions and provide valuable insight into the application process. The School Counseling Department will be hosting a college fair in the cafeteria on Monday (10/21.) The college fair offers students an opportunity to learn more about the academic programs at colleges and universities all over the country.
